Life in Maple Class
What an amazing start it has been to our time in Year 4! From exploring the world of Sherlock Holmes to creating our own pieces of Banksy artwork, the children have been actively solving a whole range of mysteries.
From the minute they entered Year 4, both Beech and Maple Class have shown an incredible level of enthusiasm and this has been no more apparent than in their writing. Taken inspiration from some of the greatest mystery solvers of them all, the children created a wide range of mystery stories which really got them thinking about creating suspense and building up to reveals that were truly surprising. Keeping to the mysterious theme, our determined detectives turned into reliable reporters to produce a newspaper article based on their stories. All Year 4 teachers, were impressed with their abilities to switch between genres so well and Beech Class thoroughly enjoyed solving the mystery of Mr Woodburn’s missing picture.
Not only have the children made great detectives but they have also shown their hand at graffiti artwork. Taking inspiration from none other than Banksy, the children created a series of stencils that they used to demonstrate their skills in graffiti. Who knows? Maybe one of our Year 4’s might be Banksy in disguise.
Harvest is a real highlight of the first term back at school and Mr Cottle, Mr Little and Mr Ball were exceptionally proud of how each and every child performed at the Harvest Festival. Both performances were delivered with great confidence and it was a joy to see smiles on the faces of those in attendance.
Swimming created a real splash, with all children showing good progress in their lessons. From developing backstrokes to general confidence in the pool it has been nothing short of a joy to see the enjoyment on each and every child’s face and we look forward to returning to the pool in Term 4 very much.
This term really ended with a bang when both Year 4 classes were tasked with seeing which solid would cause the biggest reaction with Cola as part of our Science topic. The aim was to create our own mini geysers and this was done in emphatic style using Mentos and bicarbonate of soda.
It has been a really positive start to Year 4 and the children should be extremely proud with themselves whilst looking forward to our exciting Roman’s topic ahead.
