The Grove Primary School

What an incredible start to the year we have had in Year 2! We have all been blown away by the incredible hard work and dedication that has been demonstrated by both classes.

In English, we have been working hard to write our letters to Mr Woodburn persuading him to make The Grove a more environmentally friendly place!

Everyone showed such passion and excitement for this topic and this has truly shown in their writing. We then moved on to write a story inspired by our topic book ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’, we have been thoroughly impressed by the children’s use of alliteration and creative writing skills!

In Maths, we have been focusing on using our knowledge of Place Value to help us with addition and subtraction problems. Our knowledge of spellings and sounds has grown this term, which you may have seen in your child’s homework!

Everyone’s confidence and ability has already developed so much since the beginning of the year, and we cannot wait to see how this continues as the year goes on.

We have also had our wonderful Harvest Festival this term. There were brilliant performances from both Year 2 classes. In Almond Class, the children performed a beautiful prayer which was lovely to listen to. In Hawthorn Class, the children learnt the song ‘We’re So Thankful’ and they amazed us with their lovely voices.

Finally, we ended our term with our highly anticipated ‘Georgian Day’. We had a delicious afternoon tea, made some butter and promenaded around in our finest party wear! This was the perfect way to end what has been an incredible first term in Year 2.
