The Grove Primary School

Year 5

Cedar and Willow

As we come to the end of a fantastic year, we would like to share some of the highlights from our exciting 'Splash!' topic this term. From exploring rivers and oceans around the world, to investigating the stages of the water cycle, the children have approached their learning with enthusiasm and curiosity. It has been wonderful to see their knowledge and confidence grow, and we are immensely proud of everything they have achieved.

In Writing this term, they have been working to incorporate all the key skills they have learnt this year. They have had time to complete some independent assessments, where they had the opportunity to look back at their first piece of writing in Year 5 and re-write this, seeing the massive improvements they have made.

In Art and Design, the children have been looking at Hokusai’s art, exploring different sketching techniques and then completing some lino printing onto t-shirts.
This term the children have had the opportunity to show many of their talents through events such as Sports Day, the Poetry Competition and Arts Day. All children showed great determination and hard work throughout.

Both Year 5 classes enjoyed trips to Clarendon and John of Gaunt, where they had the opportunity to experience a range of secondary school lessons. This visit gave them the opportunity to explore new environments, meet new people and get an insight into secondary school life! The children represented the school extremely well, impressing many staff members with their maturity, willingness to try new things and wonderful manners.

We are so proud of how the Year 5s have developed this year and we look forward to hearing about their future successes in Year 6.
