What a fabulous and busy final term we have had in Year One! We have had so much fun exploring this term's topic, 'Off, Off We Go!'

In English, we travelled to Africa through the traditional story Awongalema. The children loved performing the story using masks and enthusiastically took on the roles of the narrator and the different animal characters. They then used their creativity and writing skills to retell the story in their own words.

We also took part in the Key Stage One Poetry Competition. Every child wrote their own acrostic poem, and we learnt, rehearsed and performed our class poems with great enthusiasm. We were delighted that Larch Class and Silver Birch Class won the award for Best Group Performance—a fantastic achievement that everyone should be very proud of!

In Maths, we have been comparing numbers within 100 and learning to tell the time to o'clock and half past. We have also explored money by learning the value of different coins and notes. The children loved putting their knowledge into practice by setting up and running their own shops during Continuous Provision.

In Science, we returned to our Plants topic, where we learnt to recognise and name a variety of common wild and garden flowers. The children also designed their own imaginative plants using everything they had learnt, creating some truly amazing botanical masterpieces!

In Art, we developed a range of practical skills, including weaving, plaiting, cutting, gluing, trimming and combining materials to create different textures by mixing paint with flour and sand. We had great fun making our hot air balloons, and they look fantastic! We were incredibly proud of the children's perseverance and the care they took to produce such beautifully crafted pieces.

In Design and Technology, we practised important food preparation skills such as peeling, cutting and grating before making a delicious fruit salad. The children carefully arranged the fruit into colourful pictures and patterns before enjoying their tasty creations.

In Geography, we investigated the enquiry question, 'What countries have Year 1 visited?' We learnt the names and locations of the seven continents and explored some of the countries within them. Working in small groups, the children created their own globes using beach balls, and we thoroughly enjoyed singing The Seven Continents song to help us remember them all!

We have had a wonderful year in Year One, and the Year One team is incredibly proud of every child and the fantastic progress they have made. Thank you for all your support with reading, Sounds-Write homework and times tables practice throughout the year—it has made such a difference.
