The Grove Primary School

Year 5

Cedar and Willow

The children have been really fantastic this term. We have really gotten to grips with learning more about the Vikings and how they battled with the Anglo Saxons. We have really learnt in depth about the historical aspects about the Viking raids and why they were interested in the small island of Lindisfarne.

Through English we have written some striking newspaper articles all about this raid and have writing some interesting writing through our history lessons too.

We have been really practical this term! In DT we made sails for our Viking boats using sewing techniques and even using a glue gun! Continuing with our active learning, in music, alongside practising for our Christmas performances, we have used the IPADS and an app called GarageBand to compose our own pieces of music.

Along with special dates and events such as Anti Bullying week, Remembrance Day and Christmas Jumper Day, we have also been lucky enough to benefit from the quality first aid learning provided by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Education Team – this was such a brilliant session, and the children really enjoyed learning such valuable potentially life-saving skills.

The children, once again have been brilliant this term. Thank you one and all!
