The Grove Primary School

Resource Base

This term has seen the opening of The Grove Resource Base within The Pemberton building. This provision is in place to support pupils with communication and interaction needs. The Resource Base consists of two classes, each with a capacity of ten pupils . A resource base provides targeted educational support to children who present with special educational needs.

Resource bases are often attached to or are part of a mainstream school setting. Children who will benefit from a resource base will have a blended learning program. This offers the opportunity to access a mainstream curriculum and classroom (where appropriate), as well as targeted support.

In 2024-25, The Grove Primary School benefitted from Wiltshire Council funding to improve the condition of our school buildings. This enabled a project to develop the site and include an additional two-classroom dedicated Resource Base for Children with Education Health Care Plans for Communication and Interaction needs. The base will include 20 places for KS1 and KS2 children across the two classrooms.  The first class (Oak) started in September 2025, and the second class (Pine) will start in September 2026.

Our Curriculum

We have worked closely with local Resource Bases in order to develop our curriculum. A massive thanks to CastleMead for their incredible support in helping to develop our curriculum.

We have been using Attention Autism a learning approach that aims to develop natural and spontaneous communication skills in children with autism, through the use of visually based and highly motivating activities. The approach was developed by speech and language therapist, Gina Davies. Through this we will develop pupils ability to engage with more formal learning.

The project this term is called “Are our families the same?” We have delivered learning around families through attention autism and continuous provisions.
