Life in Beech Class

For Year 4, this past term has been an exciting one! Firstly, PC. Julie sent a breaking news clip reporting the appearance of an Iron Man in Westbury! The children wrote a newspaper report for PC. Julie, sharing this terrifying news!

From learning about climate change and sustainability in Geography and English, the children have developed their knowledge of the world and how to look after it. The children have discussed and tackled the issue of climate change with real passion, just like Greta Thunberg, and they wrote some very persuasive letters to Mr Rishi Sunak to convince him to help our cause!

You also may have noticed that some members of Year 4 have been busy creating works of art out of recycled goods. This went further when we were fortunate enough to be joined by our friends from the Wiltshire Scrap Store who showed us how we could create our own ‘Ideal World’ with materials we would often discard. It was amazing to see some of the incredible creations the children came up with, and judging by the smiles on their faces, was something they thoroughly enjoyed too.

Not only this but the children have thoroughly loved art and explored how to create different tints and tones with paint. In doing so, they have acquired the skills needed to paint their own Ideal World, in the style of Joseph Turner.

This term Year 4 also loved getting their hands dirty as they recreated our digestive system. Using nothing more than some digestive biscuits, orange squash, a set of tights and some trays to store ‘the waste’, the children were able to see what happens to the food we eat.

We hope you enjoy the Easter break, some sweet treats and a little bit of relaxation. See you next term where we switch our focus to ‘Chocolate’.
