Art
Design Technology
The skills and techniques of Art are sometimes taught separately and sometimes within the topic. Similarly Design and Technology is developed as an extension of the central class topic theme or as independent skills and techniques.
Geography & History
Teaching is based on the National Curriculum requirements. At certain times of the year the focal point of the class topic allows geography and history to be taught to some depth.

Information and Communication Technology or I.C.T. is becoming a very important area of our work. Children are taught many computer related skills appropriate to their age and ability. Children at Key Stage 1 and 2 have access to our Computer Suite where they can use the latest IT equipment and software to enhance their work, use the Internet, and to develop their I.C.T. skills.
Literacy
The development of the language skills of Reading, Writing, and Speaking and Listening are essential in all learning and are being developed across the entire school curriculum.
Reading is taught on a group reading basis as outlined in the National Literacy Strategy. Targets for the class, the group, and the individual child are set half-termly and work to achieve those targets is undertaken on a daily basis. There is a well-structured programme that covers all aspects of reading development. Books outside the teaching programme are available for children. They are encouraged to take books home and share their learning experience with parents. It is important that children read for practice and enjoyment.
The teaching of writing skills is an integral part of the school's work. Children will undertake a variety of writing activities based on the requirements of the National Literacy Strategy.
Each child's progress is monitored throughout the time in school and extra help given if necessary.
Further details on Literacy and Reading are contained in our information leaflet for parents, which is available from school.

Teaching is based on the National Curriculum and National Numeracy Strategy, in conjunction with our own Mathematics Guidelines.
Each class has 'Numeracy' time each day where number bonds, tables, and mental arithmetic are taught. Generally children are taught as a class at the beginning of the lesson and they will then follow up this direct teaching by undertaking activities in groups.
The methods we use are based on advice from the National Numeracy strategy tempered by our own experience.
Modern
Foreign Languages (click to visit the MFL page)
An awareness and appreciation of other cultures and languages is
encouraged throughout the school. Children participate in regular
foreign language lessons as well as having the opportunity to work
with a Foreign Language Assistant. Activities such as songs and
games help to ensure that children are introduced to language learning
in a fun and effective way.
Music
Music is taught in class lessons based on the National Curriculum. Children who show a particular aptitude have opportunities to learn the recorder, flute or violin. This tuition is given by the Wiltshire Music Service and is subject to specific charges.
Physical
Education
All children have regular opportunities for physical education both indoors and out. Gymnastics, dance and games are included in the programme as well as swimming for Key Stage 2 children.
Religious Education
This is not distinctive of any denomination and is in accordance with the Wiltshire Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education. You have the right to withdraw your child from this part of the curriculum and from collective worship (Assembly). You should discuss the matter in the first instance with the Headteacher who will outline the alternative provision that is made. Visiting speakers participate in our assemblies on a regular basis.
Science
(click to visit the Science page)
Methods of scientific enquiry as well as knowledge about science are taught. This demands 'a Hands-on' approach to learning backed up by appropriate resources. A framework of the areas of study ensures a thorough coverage of National Curriculum requirements.
Sex Education
Our approach is designed to be as unsensational as possible and is kept in the framework of the family and mutual respect. Questions are answered honestly and sensitively whenever they arise but always with due regard to the age and maturity of the children. A more formal programme of study is undertaken by Year 5 pupils that will cover aspects of human reproduction. The Governors of the school have specifically approved this part of the curriculum. Parents may withdraw their child from that part of the Sex Education Programme, which is not included in the National Curriculum. If you wish you may discuss this with the Headteacher.
