School Organisation
Grove, like other Community Schools, is run by the Governing Body and is under the day-to-day direction of the Headteacher.
The children are initially in the 'Foundation Stage' of their education. This is the Reception Year. It is sometimes referred to as 'Early Years'. Years 1 and 2 are known as Key Stage 1, and Year 3 up to Year 6 is Key Stage 2.
The school is organised on a one teacher to one class basis. The classteacher is responsible for the planning of the lessons to be taught within the guidelines of the school, the National Curriculum, and the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. This planning is undertaken with teachers who have the same age group to ensure parity across the year group.
The composition of each class is primarily determined by age, and the numbers in each class will vary from year to year. Government regulations prevent us, under normal circumstances, having more than 30 in a Key Stage 1 class. Key Stage 2 classes tend to be higher.
There is an exchange of teachers in some curriculum areas, for example in Music and P.E. Children are expected to do Homework, which is appropriate to the child's age and ability. Our Homework Policy sets this out in detail.
